Statement from Michele Sims on Kevin Arocha’s Lawfare Campaign
Kevin Arocha is at it again, Mulberry. This evening, in a lengthy statement riddled with falsehoods and inaccuracies, Arocha announced that he is seeking a “judicial review” of my candidacy for the Mulberry City Council. Arocha might call it judicial review but all that means is he filed a lawsuit against me.
While it is refreshing that Kevin Arocha is no longer using his wife as a shield in his lawfare campaign, finally signing his name to his arguments, it is highly disappointing that he continues to waste precious taxpayer dollars and resources on entirely baseless accusations. I can only imagine how wasteful he will be with Mulberry’s funds if elected to City Council.
Per his statement, his suit does nothing more than rehash the same falsehoods and claims that was rejected unanimously by the Gwinnett County Elections Board, just last month. A board that is composed of two Republicans appointed and empowered by the Gwinnett County Republican Party, two Democrats appointed and empowered by the Gwinnett County Democratic Party, and a Chairperson.
Each member of this board, as well as members of the public listened to Kevin Arocha’s arguments and saw right through him.
Despite his statement that he is only seeking to “protect” the City of Mulberry from conflicts, it is beyond evident that Kevin is simply doing everything he can to distract from the very obvious financial conflicts he has and could use to enrich himself personally and his company (Insight Global, where Kevin Arocha serves as part-owner, has routinely placed bids for massive multi-year staffing contracts with the Gwinnett County Government).
Furthermore, the arguments brought forward by Mr. Arocha, while not applicable to myself, would actually disqualify more than 22,000 Gwinnett County Public School teachers, staff and faculty, 936 sworn Gwinnett County Police Officers, 132 civilian E-911 Communications Officers, 190 civilian employees, and 1,056 trained men and women in the Gwinnett County Fire and Service Department, from serving on the City Council in Mulberry.
Do we want someone representing us who deems these public servants as “unfit to serve?”
While I have not yet been served in these legal proceedings (another lie of Kevin Arocha’s), should they move forward, just as I have done time and again on behalf of my community everyday, I will fight these lies in the court of law.
In the meantime, my focus remains on continuing to meet with my neighbors and voters, hear from them and discuss what’s at stake in this election and the future of our new hometown.
