Meet Michele

A resident of Gwinnett County for more than 15 years and the proud product of the small town of Millington, NJ, Michele Sims is no stranger to the enduring values that have led so many to call the vibrant City of Mulberry their home – community involvement, neighborliness, self-reliance, respect for tradition, honesty, family values, patience, and resilience. Michele received her bachelor’s degree with honors from the esteemed Wellesley College and then went on to earn her J.D. degree with honors in 1999 from the University of Iowa College of Law.

While she was attending law school, she worked as a Mental Health Visiting Counselor, a role that provided her with profound insights into the lives of adults grappling with mental illness. This experience deeply moved her, and after graduating from law school, rather than immediately pursuing a traditional legal career, Michele made the impactful decision to open a personal care home dedicated to supporting adults with developmental disabilities and mental illness. During this meaningful time, she also served as a minister in her church and was active in an array of volunteer outreach programs, including working with Domestic Violence Programs, Prison Ministries, and Homeless Shelters.

In 2009, Michele officially began her legal career, eventually becoming an Assistant District Attorney in 2015.

Today, she proudly serves as a Managing Assistant District Attorney here in Gwinnett County, where she has tirelessly gone up against some of the most dangerous criminals in court and won!

Her resilience and dedication are unmatched. Now, she’s ready to bring that same determination to the Mulberry City Council, to ensure that our new hometown remains a safe and thriving community for all.
